'A little better': A poem by Vijay Nambisan

A little dilute streamed a little pipe

Left inclining by the divider when the roofers

Had laid the guttering. It came

The earth, asking until it was required.

Presently

There is somewhat green thing there, scarcely

A plant, happen to a seed which lay in hold up,

Furthermore, whether it has leaves or quills or

Wings, I should hold up to find.

It is

Not a green I watch over: not a green I utilize

In colored pencil, or in material: excessively rich, too noisy

With fortune, excessively satisfied with itself.

How

They'd giggle, the collectors outside

In the fields moist with paddy, their fingers

Grasping goodness, on the off chance that I demonstrated them such a yield!

The land is rank with rice this year, the cost

Is down.

Thus this small greenling sits

In the sun, happy with itself,

Whatever it is.

Whatever it is,

It can't make things as they are any more regrettable,

Furthermore, no one is the poorer for its pleasure.
