VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis has acknowledged the abdication of Cleveland's priest, who, in 2012, was overruled by the Vatican in his offer to close wards.
The Vatican's declaration Wednesday about Bishop Richard Lennon's abdication didn't show when a successor would be named.
Lennon, 69, is six years more youthful than the age when ministers must offer to leave. He experienced a heart system not long ago.
The Vatican's rebuke of his arrangements to close 12 wards was an uncommon occurrence when Rome turned around a U.S. priest on such terminations. Parishioners had tested terminations, holding sit-ins and notwithstanding making a breakaway assemblage.
Lennon, Cleveland's diocesan since 2006, requested the closings on account of lessening quantities of clerics and parishioners and budgetary issues. The Vatican ruled he didn't take after chapel law and methodology in the closings.
