From Buckeye to Wolverine: Michigan football commit Joel Honigford

Growing up, there was little alternative.

Joel Honigford was a Buckeye.

"My father played b-ball at Ohio State, and he and my mother met there, so I was an Ohio State fan my whole life," said Honigford, a hostile handle from Sugarcreek, Ohio. "I really stated, at an early stage in the enlisting procedure, that I wouldn't consider Michigan. That was progressively the fan side of me."

That didn't keep going long. At the point when the Wolverines demonstrated selecting enthusiasm for him, he got inquisitive.

"They had truly begun to advance in (mentor Jim) Harbaugh's first year," Honigford said. "I simply became hopelessly enamored with it. The main visit, I truly preferred it and needed to do a reversal and ensure, 'Is this the correct place for me?' It was, and there was no doubt."

Honigford verbally dedicated to U-M on June 29. He has fixed up the greater part of his OSU rigging, and in the end will locate another home for it.

He says he enhanced every week amid his senior season at Garaway High.

"I've never needed to level throughout the years, and I think I made an entirely decent showing with regards to of not doing that," Honigford said. "This year, I concentrated on the truly seemingly insignificant details, such as remaining low, holding my face back, dealing with my punch and stuff that way. I think I performed truly well this year. Experiencing my amusements and checking highlights, I was inspired with myself for not leveling."

As of now a year ago, a couple Michigan selects abruptly lost correspondence with the staff and marked somewhere else. Yet, hostile organizer and line mentor Tim Drevno and Harbaugh came to watch Honigford play b-ball a week ago, reaffirming their vow to him two weeks before marking day Feb. 1.

"I think they were coming to look at me," Honigford said. "Not that they think I lost it or anything, however they need to come watch and let me realize that, 'despite everything we think about you, despite the fact that you are conferred and have been submitted for some time.' That's the general vibe I got from it."

With respect to where he'll arrive at U-M in the wake of being named first-group All-Ohio Division V, that is a secret. Despite the fact that he's 6 feet 6, Honigford said he's not restricted to handle.

"I really played handle my green bean and sophomore year in secondary school and, my lesser year, I began off at handle, and we expected to move folks around, so Coach wound up putting me at watch," Hongiford said. "It worked really well."

He remained at monitor the previous two years, except for the season finale, when he came back to handle in view of another player's damage.

"Wherever I can get on the field the fastest, that is the place I need to play," he said.
