Friends of the Niobrara Honor Loren Wilson with River Keeper Award

Companions of the Niobrara exhibited the relatives of the late Loren Wilson with their River Keeper Award at a service at Mahoney State Park in November.

Wilson's child, Bill Wilson, said his dad was a resolute promoter for the Niobrara and one of the first to advance paddling on Nebraska streams. He began taking his Boy Scout troop on Niobrara kayak trips in the mid 1970s. In the long run, he claimed Rocky Ford, one of the stream's most prevalent takeout destinations along the waterway. As proprietor and administrator of Wilson Outfitters Nebraska, he brought a large number of individuals down the stream until his demise taking after a stroke in 1986 that happened while he was driving a kayak stumble on the Niobrara.

"Loren made ready to saving this delightful and broadly noteworthy asset," said Bruce Kennedy, president of Friends of the Niobrara.

Agents from state offices and preservation associations were available for the service, alongside Wilson's family and companions.

Loren's dowager, Twila, alongside their youngsters, acknowledged the honor for his benefit.

"Loren perceived early that the Niobrara River was something exceptional," Twila Loren said. "He totally adored taking individuals out to this wonderful place to kayak and camp. He would have been so satisfied to see the immense responsibility and work of individuals and associations like Friends of the Niobrara to proceed with this vital work and keep the force going."
