A gigantic seismic tremor of 8.0 extent hit off the shoreline of Papua New Guinea on Saturday. A tidal wave cautioning has been issued.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has said that far reaching dangerous wave waves are conceivable.

The shudder of 8.0 extent struck 157 km east of Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The PTWC said tidal wave waves were conceivable in the following three hours along a few shorelines of Papua New Guinea as well as Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Nauru, Kosrae and Vanuatu, as per Reuters reports.

The New Zealand Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Management (MCDEM)Emergency on Twitter said that it is issuing tidal wave notices for New Zealand as well after the New Guinea quake.
